The ISO 37001 standard details the requirements for an Anti-Bribery Management System. The current version of the ISO 37001 standard is structured in a manner similar to other standards such as ISO 9001. It requires organisations to prove they are well structured with clear roles and responsibilities for individuals. Additionally, organisations must demonstrate that documented information is controlled, that risks and opportunities are considered and that actions to address these are identified and implemented.
Meeting the requirements of this standard
In order to meet the requirements of this standard organisations must have an Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) in place. The ABMS must detail arrangements for the identification and evaluation of bribery in addition to having controls in place for responding to bribery. The organisation must also have set up an anti-bribery compliance function. This can take the form of a 3rd party or fully independent function within the organisation with the authority to oversee and ensure conformance to anti- bribery controls. The employment process within an organisation needs to ensure that all employees have agreed to comply with anti-bribery policy as a condition of their employment. Where a risk of bribery has been identified a process of due diligence must be established in order to assess the risk on an ongoing basis.
Meeting the requirements of this standard necessitates the completion of a Bribery Risk Assessment in order to ensure that bribery risks are identified and categorised by the degree of threat that they pose. The standard also requires organisations to produce a documented Anti-Bribery Management System with procedures for managing gifts, hospitality and other benefits.
